The grant aims to meet the large-scale need for early childhood development support by using television, and a programme with known quality and influence.

Galli Galli Sim Sim is the locally-produced version of Sesame Street, bringing early childhood education to television with engaging stories and music. Our investment is designed to develop content that is scientifically formulated to increase cognitive, social, health and hygiene skills. 

Children across India regularly watch and learn from this series with a parent or care-provider. The programme is broadcast on national and regional television channels in seven languages – Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. 


Between February and September 2015, audience figures showed that seven million children watched Galli Galli Sim Sim, mostly from poor households.

By 2019, the programme aims to reach 13 million children and significantly increase cognitive, non-cognitive, health and hygiene skills.
