The rising right-wing populism in Europe and other regions of the world threatens to undermine the progress made on sexual and reproductive rights and gender equality. Many countries are experiencing rising opposition to comprehensive sexuality education, abortion, and LGBT rights. This political context threatens the gains that the world has made in the twenty two years since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt in 1994.

In the face of rising opposition, there is an opportunity to galvanise progressive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) actors at global level by replacing the ICPD High Level Taskforce with a new mechanism to be sustained by traditional and bilateral donors.

This investment will help sustain global voices in support of SRHR by developing a new high-level mechanism. This will include support to develop a strategy for the high level mechanism and a launch of the platform.

In light of the SheDecides movement, the follow on mechanism will work closely with SheDecides Champions and complement this political movement.

The investment is expected to result in the launch of a sustainable platform with investments from traditional and bilateral donors, including strong SRHR focused and supportive governments.
