Theo Mitchell

Director, Climate - Europe and International

Theo is the Director responsible for CIFF’s Climate portfolio and strategy across Europe, as well its work on industrial decarbonisation and international climate change.

Prior to joining CIFF in 2020, Theo ran strategy consultancy, Enerfair Engagement, where he supported clients from the public and private sectors in developing and executing climate policy campaigns across the UK and EU, and at international level. During this time, Theo worked with organisations including the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, the Prince of Wales’ Corporate Leaders Group, the Bellona Foundation, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), and the UK’s Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG), where he remains a Non Executive Director.

Theo’s early career included roles at Hampshire County Council, 10:10, the Carbon Capture and Storage Association, and Madagascar-based development NGO, Azafady. He was also the Head of Office and Energy Policy Advisor to former MEP, Lord Ian Duncan, during which time he led EU technical trilogue negotiations ahead of phase 4 of the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) on behalf of the European Parliament.

Theo holds an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Birmingham and a First Class undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Exeter. He has been an undergraduate and postgraduate student Mentor at the University of Birmingham since 2015.
