China
Working with partners to accelerate China’s green and low-carbon transition, and ensure progress towards global climate goals.
Introduction
Our work in China focuses exclusively on climate solutions. Our partners are dedicated to accelerating the green transition and sustainable development in China to help create a world that is healthy and safe for children.
CIFF works in full compliance with China’s regulatory and legal requirements, and maintains a rigorous due diligence process across all engagements. CIFF has no religious or political affiliations.
Investment case
Accelerating climate action in China has benefits across society. China’s continued climate action is fundamental to ensuring the world achieves global climate targets.
China’s PM2.5 (particulate matter) improvement reduced premature deaths attributable to air pollution from 1.66 million in 2013 to 1.08 million in 2024.
Climate action and air quality improvement go hand in hand to enhance public health.
Key priorities
Energy transition in key sectors
Our goal: To accelerate China’s decarbonisation across critical sectors.
China’s decarbonisation across key sectors like power, industry, transport and buildings is essential for achieving its climate goals. CIFF’s partners are working on accelerating this shift towards a net-zero future.
There are strong examples of progress, such as China’s increase in wind and solar capacity in recent years. In 2024 358GW of wind and solar were installed in China (Ember), with capacity surpassing national targets six years ahead of schedule.
Ensuring climate action works for the environment and development
Our goal: To integrate effective climate action with broader sustainability goals in China.
Effective climate action does not operate in isolation. CIFF’s partners work to harness the connections between climate, environmental protection, and societal prosperity to form a positive cycle where progress in one area reinforces and accelerates positive outcomes in the others.
China team
CIFF registered its Beijing office in 2019. Our work in China is led by a leadership team with experience across climate, energy, and finance sectors, based in Beijing.
